Ms Julie Kohls-Gatzoulis
Julie Kohls-Gatzoulis trained in Orthopaedic Surgery both in Toronto, Canada and in England. She qualified in medicine at the University of Western Ontario in 1996 and then joined the orthopaedic surgery training programme at the University of Toronto.
After arriving in London in 1999, Ms Kohls-Gatzoulis trained fully as an orthopaedic surgeon in the London North West Thames training programme. In 2007 she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England FRCS (Tr & Orth). She trained further in the subspecialty of foot and ankle surgery with a year at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore and a second year as the Surrey Foot and Ankle Fellow working at both the Royal Surrey County Hospital and also Frimley Park Hospital. She was awarded her CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) in 2008. She gained a further two years experience working as a locum consultant in the sub-specialty of foot and ankle surgery before being appointed as a consultant at the Royal Surrey County Hospital (RSCH) in March 2010.
Julie is an active participant in junior doctor education and training and has a Masters Degree in Surgical Education (M.Ed.) from the University of Toronto, Canada. Currently, she is the Foundation Year 2 Programme Director for junior doctors at the RSCH. She runs the monthly teaching half days for the orthopaedic doctors at the RSCH. She is also committed to the care of diabetic patients with foot and ankle problems and runs specialised MDT (multi-disciplinary team) clinics at the RSCH.
Julie is invited to lecture and teach at national Foot and Ankle Courses and has presented and published foot and ankle research nationally. Julie is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.
