Big toe sesamoid conditions
In the foot, the sesamoids comprise two bean-shaped bones that form the ball of the big toe. Sometimes, these bones can become inflamed or damaged, causing pain and discomfort.
Treatment options include rest, physiotherapy, specialist insoles,, X-ray guided injections and surgical excision of part or one of the the big toe sesamoids, should non-surgical treatments fail. Alternatively, if the sesamoid has thickened, we can reduce its size through sesamoid debulking/shaving. It is important to note that you may not have a sesamoid condition, as an atrophic forefoot fatpad often produces similar symptoms. We will investigate every possible cause during your consultation.
