Treatments
Orthopaedic foot and ankle specialists employ a broad range of treatments. Many problems can be corrected or improved without an operation. Indeed, before surgery is offered, we have to be satisfied that either the problem in question invariably requires an operation or that good non-surgical treatments have been tried diligently but failed to help enough. By applying this good practice, we have a maximum number of happy patients and a minimum number of complications. The vast majority of treatments we use are modern, accepted approaches to the problem. If we feel that a less well-tested or “cutting edge” treatment might be right, we will tell you so and you might be invited to be part of a clinical trial if it is genuinely not known whether the newer treatment is better than the more established one or not.

On this page we list most of the treatments, surgical and non-operative, that we employ in the Clinic. Clicking on the highlighted treatments will provide information about what it is, what it is like and what can be expected. Where this is an operation, an information leaflet about the more common ones can be downloaded. This answers the most commonly asked questions. It is important to understand the potential benefits and risks of an operation before deciding to go ahead. It is not our place to persuade you to have an operation but we will tell you if we feel the potential gains out-weigh the risks. The correct operation carried out expertly at the right time can result in great benefit.
